Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini, known as Lionel Messi, born on 24, June, 1987, is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a forward for Spanish club FC Barcelona and the Argentina national team. He has been widely regarded as another Maradona.

Messi, together with the players of Argentina national team, got the champion in 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Besides, he, as the leader of the team, got three consecutive victories in La Liga, UEFA Champions League, and Copa del Rey in 2008/09 season.

When he was five years old, Messi started to play football in local youth team, and the coach was his father. At the age of 11, Messi was diagnosed with a developmental hormone deficiency that would hinder his bony growth from growing taller. But, his family can not afford the treatment costs. Fortunately, he was taken to Barcelona by coach Cuca because of his talent in 2000. 13-year-old Messi, only 140cm, went to Barcelona training camp in September. His performance conquered the coach of Barcelona youth team, so they had signed a work contract with Messi until 2012. FC Barcelona helped Messi do exercises to make him become tall. Now, he is 170cm.

Messi is well known by his stunning header and speed. His feet are extremely flexible and strong. With superb technique, he can kick a ball with an amazing angle. In addition, his shoot by free kick also becomes a unique landscape in La Liga. Excellent ball handling skills let Messi pass a defender as a breeze. It’s easy for him to create space and opportunities for teammates when a defender is constantly trying to use body check to stop him. The fact that Messi got 1 point from Getafe team in 2007 is considered as a successful copy of Maradona, because he passed the ball successfully with 5 players’ defence.
