Diego Armando Maradona

Maradona(full name: Diego Armando Maradona Franco) is an Argentine retired professional footballer. He is widely regarded as the greatest football player. He and Pelé were awarded FIFA Player of the 20th Century award. After his retirement, Maradona became the manager of Argentina national team in November 2008.

The draw for the 2018 World Cup has taken place in Moscow’s State Kremlin Palace, Russia on 1 December 2017, which defined the composition of the eight groups for 2018 FIFA World Cup. Gary Lineker and Russian sports journalist Maria Komandnaya presented the draw. Diego Maradona, as the guest, drew out England. Hosts Russia, Uruguay, Egypt and Saudi Arabia will meet in Group A. Thirty two teams will battle it out for the right to be crowned world champions next summer.

As a world-class player, Maradona played for Barcelona and helped the team win Copa del Rey, Copa de la Liga and Supercopa de España. He played for Napoli. The club won their first UEFA Europa League in 1989 with Maradona’s three goals and the assists. In 1990, he helped the team get the championship of Serie A and Supercoppa Italiana simultaneously.

The football legend scored his first national goal on 2 June 1979 and his team won FIFA U-20 World Cup this year. For him, Maradona got the Golden Ball award for Best Player of the FIFA U-20 World Cup. In his international career with Argentina, he earned 91 caps and scored 34 goals.

In 2002, the second goal Maradona scored in the 1986 World Cup was named as “FIFA Goal of the Century” by FIFA.
